Michele Agostinis, born in Venice in 1979, has dedicated many years to documentary and socially engaged photographic projects in Latin America and Africa. Among his best-known works are “Lima, Perú, los Ángeles de la Calle” and “Gente del Verdadero Continente,” a project focused on everyday life in Kenya. Since 2015, he has lived and worked in Vienna as a portrait photographer and photographer for international events.
"The Marinera Norteña, a courtship dance born from Peru’s mestizo heritage and a symbol of national identity, is presented here not only as a dance form but as a living expression of elegance, dignity, hope, and cultural belonging."
In a world increasingly marked by conflict and violence, the search for beauty becomes an act of hope. With this spirit, photographer and artist Michele Agostinis presents the serie “La Marinera del Alma – Portraits of the People of Peru,” dedicated to one of Peru’s most important cultural expressions: the Marinera Norteña.
Through a series of portraits created between 2022 and 2026 in Lima and Trujillo, the exhibition explores the human, aesthetic, and symbolic power of this dance. The images tell stories of color, tradition, intergenerational bonds, and the profound joy of life that characterizes Peru.
